Paving Around Coconut Creek's Green Spaces
Asphalt Paving in Coconut Creek has to share space with a lot of greenery. Coconut Creek is nicknamed the Butterfly Capital of the World, is home to the Butterfly World aviary, and was the first city in Florida designated a Community Wildlife Habitat. Neighborhoods are laid out with trees, waterways, landscaped roads and butterfly gardens, so many driveways and lots sit next to planting beds, roots and irrigation lines.
That puts the focus on the edges. Before we saw-cut or excavate, we look at where tree roots run, where sprinkler heads and lines sit, and how close the pavement comes to beds and lake banks. Protecting those areas is part of the plan from the first visit. Any irrigation changes are left to the owner's irrigation professional.
June is the wettest month
Coconut Creek averages about 57.27 inches of rain a year, and June is the wettest month at roughly 7.31 inches. Summer downpours test every low spot. We study how each driveway or lot drains today and set the new slope so water heads for the street, a drain or a swale and stays away from garages and walkways.
Homes, condos and shopping lots
Housing in Coconut Creek is mainly single-family homes, condominiums and townhouses inside landscaped communities. The city also has a large retail base: Census figures show about $42,744 in retail sales per resident in 2022. Both kinds of property need pavement upkeep, from a single driveway to a shopping center lot that needs fresh striping.
County roads and permits
Some roads in north Broward are county trafficways. Broward County's Highway Construction and Engineering Division handles plan review, permitting and inspection for improvements on trafficways and functionally classified county roads. If a driveway or lot entrance ties into one of those roads, the county may need to review that part of the work along with the city, so confirm with the city and county before scheduling.
What we do in Coconut Creek
- Driveway paving and replacement next to mature landscaping
- Edge repair and patching where roots have lifted pavement
- Parking lot resurfacing, sealcoating and line striping
- Regrading low spots that hold water after storms
Sun and shade on one surface
Tree-lined streets leave pavement in shade for part of the day and full sun for the rest. Shaded sections stay damp longer and collect leaves and seed pods, while the sunny stretch dries out and oxidizes faster. Clearing debris, sealing cracks early and timing sealcoat to the condition of the sunniest section helps the whole driveway age more evenly.

Coconut Creek Questions
Can you pave close to a tree without harming it?
We plan the cut line and excavation depth to limit root damage, and we tell you when a tree's roots make a different layout or a thinner section near the trunk the wiser choice. Trees on public property or covered by city landscape rules may need approval before roots are cut, so we check first. Where roots have already lifted the old surface, we discuss whether to grind, bridge or reroute that section.
Our community restricts what driveways can look like. Is that a problem?
Usually not. Send over the architectural rules and any approval form your community uses. We size and detail the driveway to those rules and supply the drawings or descriptions the review committee asks for, so its approval is in place before any city permit application goes in.
Water runs toward my garage during heavy rain. Will a new driveway help?
It can, if the new surface is graded to carry water away from the garage toward the street or swale. We measure the existing slope and show you how the new driveway is planned to shed water before any work begins. If grading alone can't solve it, we'll tell you, and that part of the work may need a drainage specialist or city review.
Can you restripe a shopping center lot while stores stay open?
Yes. Striping and sealcoating can be done in sections or during off-hours so customers can still park. We work out a sequence with the property manager and mark closed areas clearly. Fresh paint needs a short time to dry, so closed rows stay coned off until the lines are set.
